Royals trade Alberto Callaspo to Angels
The Royals started the purge of veteran players, trading Alberto Callaspo to the Angels, for right-handed pitcher Sean O'Sullivan, and minor leaguer Will Smith(not the actor). Callaspo has hit .275 this year, with 8 homers and 43 RBI's. He is expected to step in to the 3rd base spot for the Angels, where Brandon Wood has been a major disappointment.
O'Sullivan, a 22 year-old right-handed pitcher out of Valhalla High, and Grossmont College. He has appeared in five games for the Angels this year, going 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA. He spent most of the year with AAA Salt Lake, going 5-5, with a 4.76 ERA.
Will Smith is currently in AA, and has a cumulative ERA of 5.53 ERA in three levels.
Overall I feel the Royals win this deal. Callaspo is a pretty solid player, but he doesn't do one thing particularly well. He's a solid contact guy, and did swat 40 doubles last year. The Royals have super-prospect Mike Moustakas waiting in AAA, plus Alex Gordon who can also play 3rd. O'Sullivan should jump right into the rotation for Kansas City
