Manny Ramirez Quits....err Retires

Manny Ramirez decided to "retire" today, just one week into the 2011 season, his first with the Tampa Bay Rays.  The rumor is that he decided to walk away from the game, because he failed a drug test in spring training, according to Yahoo! sports.

Manny was suspended in 2009 or 50 games, when he tested positive for a banned substance.  The Rays expected Ramirez to replace the departed Carl Crawford and Carlos Pena, and beef up their offense, allowing them to continue to contend in the tough AL East.

However, Manny has produced a .059/.059/.059 line through 18 plate appearances with the Rays.  Manny will ride off into the sunset with a career line of .312/.411/.585 with 555 HR's and 1,831 RBI's.  He also won two titles with the Boston Red Sox in 2004 and 2007.

Ramirez however, has tarnished what legacy he had left.  Instead of being viewed as of the greatest players of the 90's and 00's, he will be branded a cheat, synonymous with Mark Mcgwire, Sammy Sosa, and Rafael Palmeiro.  Don't feel too bad for Manny, he has made over $204 million in his tainted career.  Enjoy retirement, cheater!
